Originally nestled in the mountains of the Beaverhead National Forest in eastern Idaho in view of the Continental Divide near the small town of Salmon, Alpha Omega Ranch is the embodiment of a vision that its founder had to practice sustainable agriculture and humane animal husbandry while preserving and promoting rare and increasingly endangered heritage and antique breeds of livestock, all while living in harmony with the wildlife that call the ranch home. Alpha Omega focuses its conservation & breeding efforts on rare breeds of horses, sheep, pigs, goats, poultry and livestock guard dogs.

Operated as a holistic, sustainable, homestead-type wilderness preserve and ranching operation, Alpha Omega's acres are home to herds of wild deer and elk, flocks of grouse and chukars, as well as the finest quality imported European Knabstruppers & Akhal-Tekes, Appaloosas, Nez Perce Horses , Icelandic sheep, Nigerian Dwarf goats, as well as heritage breeds of turkeys and chickens. In 2007, we added Navajo-Churro sheep and imported a breeding trio of the endangered Large Black heritage hogs and an equally endangered a pair of Red Wattle heirloom pigs . Click here to see them. For 2008 we added beautiful silky llamas and exotic Wenslydale sheep for their precious wool, and rare California Red sheep for their unique wool and meat. Our animals are raised with love and care and we are proud to announce that our livestock is now Certified Naturally Grown . In 2009 we will add more Red Wattle pigs, and Jersey milk cows.

In addition to producing the highest quality horses and breeding stock, Alpha Omega also prides itself on being part of the return to local food production and biodynamic farming that was once commonplace. We give consumers the option of rejecting inhumane, unhealthy, factory-farmed and industrially produced cheap unhealthy food in favor of delicious and natural pasture-raised, grass-fed gourmet quality pork, lamb, cage-free poultry, gamebirds, rabbits, & free-range eggs. Our food production is gearing up to expand in 2009 to include selections to make all the foodies out there salivate: organically raised heirloom vegatables, raw milk, aritsan cheeses, slow raised fatty chickens and turkeys, poultry fat, pork lard, free-range fois gras, and head-to-tail production for all those hard-to-find animals parts.

Our breeds have been carefully selected to grow well in our location, which means they have the ability to graze and forage on the plants that grow in this region (not grain that has to be trucked in from far away), and they can withstand the hot, dry summers and cold, harsh winters with a minimum of pampering. They do take longer to raise to market weight this way, but their lives are longer, happier, and stres-free, their production is sustainable and harms neither the land nor the animals themselves. 2009 meat CSA subscriptions are now available. We also grow and sell raw and processed naturally colored organically grown wool and alpaca, llama, and angora fiber, which come from animals that are produced and raised here in a kind, natural, humane, and loving way. Always treated in an all-natural and healthy way (which means uncaged, free-ranging and pasture grazing throughout the ranch's rugged and wooded terrain, and always raised without chemicals, growth hormones, antibiotics or vaccines, our special breeds ensure the continuation of biodiversity and old-fashioned flavor.
