KOMODOROK PUPPY PHOTOS
Here you can watch an actual litter of 12 Komondor puppies develop from birth to adult.
At 2 weeks now:
just as eyes start to open. They really cannot see yet and are still crawling around.
As newborns on June 10th, 2007:
12 puppies born over a a seven hour period. 6 males and 6 females. Puppies are born with their eyes closed and pink skin and noses which will turn black in a couple weeks.
The first week.
Just a lot of eating and sleeping. Feeding in shifts now after Marley accidentally laid on one and it died. Later in the week they all came together. Puppies have collective dreams at this stage. Very interesting to hear them all chirping in harmony while they sleep.
The largest and smallest puppies together.
Weeks three to four:
puppies move outside and meet the rest of the family. Into the fourth week the puppies get much more active and their personalities and baby teeth start to emerge.
Even the father Tokko pitches in to care for his puppies.
Marley is a first time mom and isn't sure what to do at first with all the puppies, but she doesn't move once they fall asleep on her legs-- their favorite spot.
Weeks 5-6:
Puppies' personalities have come out and they are becoming very individual now. They have also gained confidence and are starting to wander around. Hot weather has everybody panting and seeking shade. They have also been eating solid food, in addition to milk, for 2 weeks.
The puppies are big enough now to sit and nurse while mom stands. The biggest one weighs 12 lbs! That's been a 2+ pounds per week gain.
Another father-son moment.
Weeks 7 & 8:
Puppies are weaned and leaving for their new homes! Each day the puppies act more like the adults-- sleep during the day and get active every evening. Now they are getting quite brave and adventurous, exploring further each time they go out. All the puppies are wearing different color collars so I can tell them apart.
August 10, 2007:
today two puppies left for their new home in Alberta, Canada. Congratulations to the Williams family on the addition of Butters ("Purple") & Sophie ("Orange")!
"Purple",
a breeding quality male, is the big guy at 20lbs.
August 2, 2007:
today "Red" left for her new home in Montana. Congratulations to the Light family on the purchase of this sweet girl.
September 1, 2007:
Only five puppies left, but I have decided to keep one for another guard dog. This one will be trained to stay with the rare breed pigs that will be joining the ranch soon. So far she likes it! The puppies are quite rambunctous at times and now wander all over by themselves. Time to find homes for the remaining pups who now weigh between 25-30 lbs!
Congratulations to Logan and the Deutchman family of Idaho on the purchase of their two puppies Winnie & Waldo ("Runt" & "Blue")!
